New Toy

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Bought myself an IXUS 95IS today.

I've been wanting a small point&shoot since my S2 gave up the ghost a couple of months ago, but I wasn't really planning on getting one today. However, after a long day at work I decided that I needed something that would cheer me up. :)

A couple of shots from the new toy:

Second Light

Thursday, June 04, 2009

I just got a Vivitar 285HV based on Strobist's recommendation. No more need to always borrow Kai's flash! Yay! :)

Here's the TipidPC link if you'd like to get one. Let him know I sent you. :)

What's In My Bag

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

In the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home (which I affectionately call a man-purse) I managed to pack in:

Camera Gear
Camera Gear
(Pardon the crappy picture. Shot with an S2IS in low light.)

 • a Canon EOS 40D
 • a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM
 • a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
 • a Canon 430EX flash
 • a Cactus V2s Trigger and two Receivers
 • a lenspen, blower, and a couple of CF cards

Here are a close-ups of the major stuff:

The 30mm is my everyday lens. Solidly built, it was a step up from the standard kit lens. The f/1.4 maximum aperture is also quite useful in low-light situations. The downside: the really shallow depth of field at f/1.4 can make accurate focusing difficult.

I love this lens. It's a great portrait lens, what with the 85mm focal length and the f1/8 maximum aperture. The bokeh is really nice, too. It's also very quiet. What a difference USM makes!

I've been experimenting with off-camera flash the past couple of months. And I still have a lot to learn. Here the 430Ex is pictured with the Cactus V2S wireless receiver and stand.

And that's it. Those are my toys. I'm eyeing a wide-angle lens, a second flash, and some light modifiers as future additions to my bag (which I would soon outgrow), but not anytime soon. I haven't mastered shooting with these yet. :)
